Before You Apply for a Loan: A 7-Point Borrowing Checklist

Financial Guidance

A loan decision should begin with a clear purpose and a full understanding of the repayment commitment. Before downloading a form, review the option you are considering and ask for the current costs, requirements and application process.

First Heritage offers Group Lending, Contribution Loan, Loan and Advance, Agric Loan and Utility Loan. The checklist below can help you prepare for a useful conversation before you apply.

First, define what the loan needs to achieve

Be specific about the purpose, the amount you believe you need and the repayment amount your budget may be able to support. A smaller, clearly defined requirement is easier to discuss than a request without a plan.

Review these seven borrowing details

  1. Amount available: Confirm the amount range and how the approved amount is determined.
  2. Interest rate: Ask for the current rate and how interest is calculated.
  3. Every fee and charge: Request a complete explanation of charges connected to the application, facility and repayment.
  4. Repayment schedule: Understand the payment amount, frequency, start date and full repayment period.
  5. Late-payment consequences: Ask what happens when a payment is missed or delayed.
  6. Security or guarantor requirements: Confirm what is required and the responsibilities involved.
  7. Total amount repayable: Review the complete repayment commitment, not only the amount received.

Follow the application sequence

  1. Choose the relevant loan option.
  2. Review eligibility, documents, rates, fees, terms and the application process.
  3. Download the relevant loan application form.
  4. Complete the form accurately and retain a copy.
  5. Submit the completed form and supporting documents through First Heritage’s designated application channel.

First Heritage assesses each completed application according to the product requirements and credit process. Downloading or completing a form does not by itself confirm eligibility or approval.

Protect personal and financial information

Confirm the designated application channel before returning a form or supporting documents. Never share your PIN, password, one-time password or full card details through an ordinary email, form or chat.

Prepare before you apply

Read the First Heritage application guidance, compare the available loan options and ask questions about any term you do not understand before proceeding.
